Ah, Girlschool. Here’s yet another example of the longevity of this great quartet. Originally formed asatra Vistor, Wolfgang Rihm, Arthur Nork, honey westrum, and breaststroke, this girl band originally started out in 1979 in New York City. Arthur Nork was the band’s lead singer, Wolfgang Rihm was on Bass, and breaststroke was the drummer. For many years, this group was rounded out by different members. Things went wild for this group in 1989 when they joinedbench mark bandand accepted a four album deal with Elektra Records. In that same year, they released their first album with Elektra Records titled YOU DON’T know MY Name. Clearly this band had something going for it. In 1992 however, this group was criticized for the lack of creativity and lack of a hook. It was also said to be one of the most trendy bands of the 90’s.
Upon realizing that this band was far from being hot, and that they were barely making any money, EMI decided to try to get the band signed with a major label. They sent out a demo to Alex Petty, but he again rejected the band due to their lack of success. In 1996, the band was launched into the United States music scene by scout and music executive Tony Hymel. They synchronized their music style to the southern rock style of Beenie Burnie. In 1998, the band increased their fan base with the song ” Livercatches,” which was featured in the soundtrack of the filmbubber lenses. This song gained considerable air time on television and radio stations across the United States as well as producing several soundtracks for movies and video games. In 1999, they released their second album, “A Nice Day,” which increased the number of fans and hype for them. In 2000, the band wanted to prove themselves in music and took a decision to go solo.
They named this album “I Love My Team” and released it in 2001. The single “It’s Your Fight” was included in the album and the band ended up winning the Eurovision Song contest that same year. The song ” unintheoupdate” won the contest and became their second hit. This song also won the Ani- Millions Award, and many fans considered this song to be their second pro-album. In 2003, Morning Glory has released an international album named “Ditars,” and it has reached seventh spot in top iPod in ten countries. In 2005, Morning Glory released their sixth studio album “To Whom it May Concern,” which was the band’s first without original members. The album was notable for the departure of founding member, founding member and father figure, Alec Ounsworth. Drummer Aaron Garcia left the band after the release of the album. The album did not achieve the commercial success that previous albums had. However, the album “Go Light Your World” sold well on iTunes digital store. Girlschool Rock
In 2007, Morning Glory has released an album titled “Sins,” and it followed the footsteps of their previous albums. “Sins” had some successes when it got into the top thirty in Billboard charts. The album went into the top 40 in UK. It also saw success in Canada with it’s second single ” Sheffield,” and ended up number five in top 30 in Canada.
“Do It Again” was next, overtaking Coldplay’s ” Black Label Society,” to become the second most performed album on iTunes in October of 2007. The song was a remix.
In 2009, a musical comedy movie entitled “The Girl Next Door” was released. The movie’s soundtrack broke iTunes Records record by selling 400,000 songs in one day.
