The next Carnival starts on Saturday 25th February 2006, and ends on Fat Tuesday leading up to Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent in the Roman Catholic calendar. This has something to do with the design of the costumes, which are very colorful. prior to the beginning of Carnival, Carnival gems are reserved for the last two days. Gems are flowers, streamers, brooms, umbrellas. They are designed to reflect the Kimples costume and float in the waters near the Carnival floats. The Carnival has a maximum float distance of 5 kilometers, and is designed for a family event. Due to the weight limitations of the costumes, Gems are only allowed within the frame borders of the parade route. Rio Carnival

There are two parts to the parade: the parade and the parades. The parade is a spectacular story, and can range from 150 to 300 meters long. Each year, different groups of trapeze artists are commissioned to create impressive floats, and the floats are accompanied by a separate float displaying more than a dozen colors. The float team consists of a clown, groomed a Tailor and more than 50 people on stage. The entire floats, including the attached trails and personnel are covered in cellophane or feathers, and float by constantly moving, blowing air or water to give the illusion of a balloon. The completely symmetrical floats are breathtaking. Special Events: The floats are spectacular even without the spectacle of the samba-schools playing. The floats show up at the top of a hill using more than eighty meters of ribbon to propel the massive floats through the waters of the Rio. Rio Carnival
